Rome, the eternal city

D-1: Arrival in Rome

Arrival at Rome airport. Transfer to your hotel on the outskirts of Rome. Check-in, dinner and accommodation.

D-2: The Vatican and Baroque Rome

We have breakfast. Departure for the Holy See. Visit the Vatican Museums and the frescoed Sistine Chapel, then the immense Basilica of St. Peter with its superb mosaics. Lunch in the restaurant. In the afternoon, continue to Baroque Rome: Piazza Navona, once the scene of fireworks and festivities, the Trevi Fountain, the setting for the famous Italian film "La Dolce Vita", the Pantheon, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza del Popolo... Dinner and overnight accommodation.

D-3: Sorrento, the ice and the Sorrento coast

We have breakfast. Drive to Sorrento, arriving for lunch. Afternoon walking tour of Sorrento, one of Italy's most beautiful coastal towns, set on a cliffside overlooking the calm waters of the Bay of Naples. Discover the town's squares and narrow streets dotted with pleasant cafés. Stop for an ice-cream-making class followed by a tasting session. Settling in the area, dinner and accommodation.

D-4: The Amalfi Coast and mozzarella

We have breakfast. Departure for an excursion to the Amalfi Coast along the road that runs alongside the sea. In this region, the gardens of the houses coexist with the natural vegetation that is typical of the Mediterranean region. The Amalfi Coast has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Panoramic stop on the upper Positano to admire the superb view over the picturesque village, with its colorful, flower-filled houses clinging to the craggy rocks and sloping down to the sea. Then lunch. Visit to Amalfi, once the oldest maritime republic. Continuation by coach and stop at a farm for a mozzarella tasting. Dinner and overnight accommodation (Optional: tarantella evening, popular dance of southern Italy). 

 

D-5: Capri and Anacapri

Breakfast on board. An unforgettable day discovering Capri. Transfer to the port of Sorrento. Crossing to Capri, a small island anchored in the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean. Tour of the island by coach. Stop at Anacapri to visit the famous Villa San Michele, with its lovely shady garden and terraces overlooking the sea. Lunch on board. In the afternoon, visit Capri town with its main square, Umberto I, surrounded by cafés and dominated by a lovely church, its narrow streets and arcades featuring elegant fashion boutiques, coral jewellers, local craft stores... Stroll through the Gardens of Augustus, a magnificent flower-filled terrace overlooking the Faragliones and Marina Piccola. Return by boat to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight accommodation.

D-6: The volcano region

We have breakfast. Departure for Pompeii, buried and forgotten for years, one of the world's leading archaeological sites. You'll marvel at the magnificently preserved frescoes decorating the walls of the patrician mansions. Continue to Vesuvius. Typical lunch at a winery and wine tasting. In the afternoon, visit Vesuvius, one of the continent's last active volcanoes. It is the only volcano in continental Europe

to have erupted in the last hundred years, although it is currently dormant. It was responsible for the destruction of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis and Stabies. On the way back, stop off at a pasta factory to learn about the different phases of pasta production. Dinner and overnight stay (optional: typical dinner at a local farm). 

 

D-7: Return

Breakfast on board. Transfer to Naples airport, assistance with boarding. Return flight.
