D-1: Arrival in Funchal

On arrival at Madeira airport, welcome by our correspondent and transfer to the 4* hotel *Alto Lido or similar. Dinner and overnight stay.

D-2: Visit Funchal

After breakfast, departure from your hotel for a city tour. We'll start our tour in the Santa Catarina Park, with its breathtaking views over Funchal Bay, and then on to the 8,300-square-meter municipal garden, with its many endemic plants, flowers and trees. You'll also be able to observe many other exotic species from all over the world. We then continue our tour to Funchal's historic district, better known as the "Zona Velha". We'll start with a visit to the workers' market (Mercado dos Lavradores), with its colorful displays of fruit, vegetables and spices (fruit tasting). An annex is also devoted to the sale of local fish, Espada (conger eel), tuna, sea bream... Finally, a visit to an orchid greenhouse.

Lunch at the hotel and afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

D-3: Tour of the West Coast

This morning, after breakfast, you'll set off for an unforgettable day discovering the west of the island. Departure in the direction of Camara de Lobos, a traditional fishing village renowned for its Espada fish. Continuation to Ribeira Brava and the Encumeada Pass (1007 m altitude), offering spectacular views of both sides of the island. Then a fascinating descent through laurel forest to the typical northern villages of São Vicente and Seixal. Lunch included near the famous natural pools of Porto Moniz (swimming possible, weather permitting). We then climb to Paúl da Serra, a plateau at an altitude of 1400 m, before descending to Calheta and the village of Ponta do Sol. To round off the day in style, a stop at Cabo Girão, considered Europe's 2nd highest cliff, and its glass-bottomed lookout built 580 m above sea level.

D-4: Pico dos Barcelos / Eira do Serrado / Monte + Carnival transfer

After breakfast at the hotel, departure for a tour of Monte, its public gardens and the Basilica of Our Lady of Monte (the island's patron saint). Opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable experience in small wicker baskets, commonly known as "toboggans", which is none other than Madeira's ancient means of locomotion. These little baskets sit on rails and are held in place by men dressed in white and wearing boater hats (descent not included). Continuation to Pico dos Barcelos (panoramic view of the city of Funchal) and the Eira do Serrado lookout, 1094 m above sea level. Magnificent views of the village of Curral das Freiras and the Nuns' Valley, with its beautiful eucalyptus and chestnut forests.

From your hotel, a transfer will take you to the center of Funchal to watch the procession with a seat in the bleachers. Transfers included from your hotel.

D-5 : Free day

D-6: Levada dos Maroços

After breakfast, a leisurely walk along the Levada dos Maroços.
A levada is an irrigation canal that carries water from the north of the island to the southern slopes. This ingenious irrigation system enables Madeiran farmers to water their terraces all year round. This hike lasts around 2 hours and is considered easy. You'll need good walking shoes and a windbreaker. A beautiful and real discovery of the rural and forested landscapes of the east of the island on the heights of Machico!

D-7: East Coast tour and folk dinner

This morning, after breakfast, departure for the Poiso pass (1412 m) to reach Pico do Arieiro, the island's second-highest peak (1811m), considered one of Madeira's most beautiful spots. Continuing through the "Laurissilva", declared a World Biosphere Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999, then on to Santana, a village known for its typical thatched-roof houses. Lunch included. Continuation to Faial and the small village of Porto da Cruz, one of the island's most charming. Here, many enjoy surfing and swimming, while others take in the gentle lifestyle and beautiful surrounding scenery. Stops at the Portela Belvedere for a sublime view of Eagle Rock, and at the Facho Belvedere on the heights of Machico. On the way back to Funchal, you'll pass under the airport runway built on more than 180 piles. It's undoubtedly one of the architectural and engineering masterpieces that leaves a lasting impression on all visitors to Madeira.
To round off your stay in style, a dinner of local specialities (Caldo Verde, Espetadas - beef kebabs, bolo do caco...) accompanied by folklore in a traditional restaurant on the heights of Funchal.
