Light is more than just a source of illumination; it's synonymous with life, hope and beauty. Artists have often been inspired by its different shades and contrasts. Light festivals celebrate this essential element of our existence.
The Festival of Lights in Lyon
A tradition that began in the 19th century with the inauguration of the statue of the Virgin of Fourvière. Lyonnais spontaneously placed candles in their windows, and when night fell, the entire city was illuminated. The religious authorities followed suit, and the Fourvière chapel appeared in the night. That evening, a veritable festival was born! Every year now, on December 8, the people of Lyon place candles in their windows... and stroll through the streets of the city to admire the exceptional light installations.
